Do you want to live longer?. It’s a stupid question really, I’m guessing that if you are reading this, you probably do.
Most of us know that more exercise and better, healthier food will help to improve your health, but the 2 simplest ways to boost your health and live longer are often ignored by people. Luckily, there are many scientific studies out there to demonstrate that they work.
Can you guess what they are?
- Positive Thinking
- Smiling
These two amazing medicines are both simple and free. They are also more powerful than people actually think they are as skeptics of positive thinking often frown upon it as being a bit wacky. ..
How wrong they are:
People spend a small fortune on health supplements, gym memberships, expensive shakes etc. This can all help of course, but if you think negatively and never smile, you may as well tear up that gym membership and throw those supplements down the toilet because, for all the good you are doing in building muscles and losing weight, you are doing far more harm to yourself and your life by adopting a negative thinking strategy and never smiling.
Negativity kills..
Positive thinking promotes mental health. Your mental health also affects your physical health. The health of your brain also affects the health of your body:
Study 1. Did you know that negative thought can lower the effectiveness of your immune system? This is the result of a 30yr study by The National Center of Biotechnology Information
Study 2: Positive thinking reduces anxiety. Visualizations and positive self-talk reduce negative thinking and intrusive thoughts. This comes from a study carried out at The Kings College, London working with 102 people who were diagnosed with an anxiety disorder
Study 3: Positive people are generally happier and less likely to engage in unhealthy behavior. Happiness promotes success in health, work, and relationships.
The Science
In a study of about 5,000 people, happiness was associated with people having better health and less health problems, such as missed days from work due to sickness and hospitalization.
Yet, many people avoid (or don’t realize) the two simplest ways to live healthier and longer…
- Think positively
- Smile More.
Even smiling when you don’t feel like smiling will actually help you to feel good. Smiling regularly will help to reduce stress levels. When you smile, you are telling the brain that you “feel good”, This releases chemicals such as endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine into the brain which will improve the mood, and release positive emotions, thus helping you to feel better.
This sense of well-being starts in the brain and ends up affecting the whole body. People spend a lot of time trying to make the body look good but often overlook the engine room (the brain).
Negative emotions can have long-lasting ill effects on the body. You are your habits and if you constantly moan and groan every day, you are setting yourself up for bad health and possibly an earlier death.
Positivity And Heart Disease
Did you know that people who are optimistic and think positively could have as much as a 30% less chance of developing heart disease?. Check out this study from the Harvard Medical School
Overall, smiling and thinking positively can reduce stress. Stress is one of the world’s biggest killers and by being constantly stressed out can lead to all kinds of problems such as high blood pressure, heart attacks, and ultimately premature death.
By CHOOSING to think positively, and by smiling more, you can help yourself to a better, healthier life. Let’s not forget, that you also need to keep an eye on the foods you eat, and the quantity you consume, and ensure you’re getting more exercise.
