How Kissing Can Improve Your Health

Get your Smooooch on. YES, it’s official, kissing can actually be good for your mental and physical health. I kid you not, read on..

Do you remember those slobbery kisses your aunt used to plant on your cheek when you weren’t looking as a kid?. Well, that was her way of not only expressing love, but of also trying to make both of you “feel good”. However, as a spotty 5year old kid, you might not have recognised the significance of those slobbering lips, but hey – as a grown up, the puckering up of those lips and entwining them with someone else’s love chops may just be keeping you sane and improving your well-being.

Does this sound a bit bonkers? It’s true, I can assure you..

Here’s the science..

Basically, kissing releases your “Happy Hormones”..

Kissing triggers your brain to release a cocktail of chemicals that leave you feeling OH SO good by igniting the pleasure centres of your brain. These chemicals include oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin, which can make you feel euphoric and encourage feelings of affection and bonding.

This is why anytime you feel down, just go out and kiss a stranger… just kidding.. .

Did you know that kissing dilates blood vessels, which immediately reduces blood pressure?..

Also, kissing can give you a healthier mouth – saliva contains substances that fight bacteria, viruses and fungi. Deep kissing increases the flow of saliva, which helps to keep the mouth, teeth and gums healthy. Increased immunity – exposure to germs that inhabit your partner’s mouth strengthens your immune system.

Kissing a person you love can increase feelings of well being and immediately cleanse and reset any stressed areas of your body. The kiss is more powerful than many medicines, and many stress-related problems could actually be solved by kissing and being involved in a healthy relationship.

One of the major problems with the world today is that we often think that “hustling” and speeding through life is a good thing. but, living purely at speed and not listening to our bodies and trying to solve mental and physical challenges with quick fixes like medication, etc is a recipe for disaster. Medication tends to act like a band-aid to the problem and rarely gets to the cause, whereas good friends, good sleep, relaxation and a pleasant outlook on life will go some way towards solving most of today’s health problems.

Kissing may not cure you of all ills but it can certainly release good feelings into the body, those feeling are essential to good health, it’s how we feel about ourselves that will influence our mental health and that mental health affects the health of our body, and of course our overall well-being.

Stay healthy, keep puckering up and release those chemicals BOOM!… .

Have a great day

Keith
