The Art Of Rediscovering Yourself, Bouncing Back When All Seems Lost

At first it may seem that you are destined to stay where you are, stuck, unhappy in a place you don’t want to be, often with someone you don’t want to be with. How did it all go so wrong?

All is not lost..

The truth is, if you are not chained and gagged in a dark cellar somewhere, the chances are fear is playing a big part in you not moving on. Fear of the unknown and fear of change.

Also the familiar is often seen as being better, more comfortable even if it hurts, rather than the unknown. We all get stuck at times, it’s not a crime or a disease, it’s part of living, however, it’s often an opportunity.. YES, I said opportunity.. an opportunity to reflect on where your life is right now, where it’s going and how you got where you are..

Sidenote: Horrible things do happen to good people. We know that’s not right but nonetheless they do happen, this is part and parcel of the ups and downs of living. Both good and bad things will happen to us. We need to accept that some bad things will happen and outweigh them with good things by always moving forward and creating new experiences (new good things).

We can stay stuck in the past and hang on to the painful memories, repeating them back to ourselves every day, OR we can let go of them and move on. It’s not that we can’t move on, it’s not wanting to move on – that is the problem.

Letting go of the past is a big part of getting unstuck.

Discovering The NEW You

Everything we have today is the sum total of decisions we made and habits we formed along the way, that may be uncomfortable to stomach but nonetheless it’s true – as human beings we all make mistakes and none of us should keep beating ourselves up for making the wrong decisions, attracting the wrong people or getting stuck. It happens. We now need to get over it.

The first thing we need to recognize is that we now live in a world full of opportunity. Sure, there has always been opportunities, but today, more than ever. With all the bad news we hear about in the papers and news channels, you would think the world is coming to an end, this of course is not true, but with modern technology, we can do more things, go to more places and faster. Travel is easier and more available than ever before. Getting stuck in your mind does not mean we have to stay put in life and suffer.

Write It Down

Make a list of all the things that serve you and all the things that don’t. Do more of the things that serve you and less of the things that don’t, eradicate most, if not all the things holding you back, let go of the fear of moving forward, and start to make steps, even baby steps are better than none.

In order to swim, you have to get wet, you change by changing the formula you are currently using to live your life. Check who you are hanging with, are they a drain on you?, start to move away from negativity and negative people. Complainers and haters are not good for the soul, they complain and hate, that’s it, they do very little else..

Stepping Into The Unfamiliar

Is this really the secret to getting unstuck?. Truthfully, I think it is. Look, I’ve had some pretty hefty disasters in my life, both my parents died, one of my best female friends died at 31yrs old, I lost around a quarter of a million dollars in one day… it’s not been easy..do you think I felt the pain? – of course I did, I’m human and I have feelings. Just like you.

The thing is, although the pain was hard and sometimes a bit overwhelming, I knew right from an early age that the best medicine of all was to always be creating. When your mind is busy with positive things, it can’t be busy with negative things… you can’t experience negative and positive feelings at the same time.

When you plan, you look forward, looking forward has two meanings. You look forward with your thinking and plan out new things, you also look forward to doing just that.

Death And Other Nasty Things

When people pass on, it is you who feels the pain. They are at peace and hopefully enjoying life elsewhere in a new form. It’s you who is suffering. Should you be? Don’t let the sad things in life dim your light.

And Finally

Trees are stuck. You aren’t a tree..

I know this sounds obvious but it may not be. You don’t have to spend your life in that job, you don’t have to spend your life in that house, that place, or with that person. Life is for living, not for dying, there’s plenty of time for you to give up the ghost, get busy why you are still alive. If you are 60 or 70 years old, you may still have 25 or 30 years left, don’t waste those years waiting to die.

Do new things, learn new things, turn up the positive, turn down the negative, switch off the TV news, recognise that the World is a wonderful place.

Write it all down, the art of writing engages the brain and gives your subconscious more material to digest and help you find your way out. Remember: Being stuck is a choice brought on by fear, fear of the unknown. Start to get familiar with the unknown and start creating a NEW you..

Have a great day
