Horseshoes And Hand Grenades

The band “Green Day” sung about it, but the saying “Horseshoes And Hand Grenades goes beck quite a few years, “But close doesn’t count—except in horseshoes and hand grenades” this was first said by Minnesota Twins pitcher Jim Kaat in 1967. In sport, coming close can cost you.

In horse racing, the difference between winning and losing can be a nose. Being close to success is one thing, actually being successful is another. No one remembers those who came in second.

And so it is with just about everything.

Anyone can thing they are successful, but are they?

What it means of course is that no matter how close you get, close doesn’t count for a thing. Close only counts when tossing horseshoes or throwing hand grenades.

Horseshoes And Hand Grenades The BIG Win Factor

Of course, sticking to the task is everything, but you have to first make sure that the task is a winning one. Following several losing strategies wont make you a winner. You have ot make sure that you are on the right track in the first place and you have to be prepared to not just go close but ot actually pass the winning line in front.

Sport, like many things that we do is not necessarily something you are good at right at the beginning, in fact most successful sports people sucked big-time at first. This is the same with almost anything. You have to be bad to be good. View everything as an apprenticeship, you only get good, really good, by doing. It’s the doing that makes you good, really good. No book or course in the world will MAKE you successful.

Close But No Cigar

Although people view being “close” to success as an achievement, it doesn’t pay the bills. You have to go the whole course, you have to be a “sticker of things”. The more you keep “dabbling” the farther away you get from hitting the jackpot. Many people get semi-good at several things, but none of those things are enough to make a massive change.

Life changing events need a lot of action from you. If you want to write a book and you’re happy to have one book as a passion project, that’s fine, but if you want to make money… serious money, you have to keep writing books until you hear the CHA-CHING!!! of the money hitting your bank account. It may happen on the 2nd, the 3rd or the 5th book, or it could be 18 or 19 books before you finally figure out the code… YES, the code for making money…

All success comes with experience, none of it falls in your lap. And to get experience you have to fail first, probably many times over. Are you prepared to go on a fail trail?. Failing teaches you to succeed. Many people won’t or don’t want to acknowledge this as they associate failing a few times with some kind of permanent failure, which it isn’t.

So, horseshoes and hand grenades… if not, close enough is no good. If you want anything in this life, you have to go out and get it, no one gives you anything really… well, except love…love is good but it won’t pay the rent..

Have a great day.

All the best

Keith
