Frane Selak, Was he the luckiest guy to ever live?. You decide.
Frane Selak, also known as Frano Selak was a Croatian man born in 1929, he died in 2016 and was renowned for cheating death. In fact, he was known to have cheated death at least 7, YES, 7 times in his lifetime. He also ended up winning $1 Million in the lottery.
So, where did it all begin?
It all started back in 1962 when a train he was traveling on derailed and ended up in an icy river killing 17 passengers, but he survived. Selak suffered a broken arm and hypothermia
His next “dice with death” came a year later when for the first time ever he boarded a plane. He somehow managed to lean up against a malfunctioning emergency door and ended up falling out of the plane, his fall was cushioned by a giant haystack below. The plane developed engine trouble and ended up crashing, killing all 19 people on board.
3 years later he was on a bus that skidded on a road and ended up in a river, killing 4 passengers. Once again, he survived. Selak escaped with cuts and bruises
In 1970, his car caught fire, he jumped out just in time to watch it explode.
In 1973 his new car’s fuel pipe broke causing a fire, he luckily escaped before the flames engulfed the car and reduced it to molten metal. Selak’s hair was badly singed in the incident.
In 1995 he survived being hit by a bus in Zagreb, but sustained only minor injuries.
In 1996 whilst driving up a mountain road his car swerved to avoid an oncoming truck, he hit a guard rail and he and his car plunged 300 feet down the mountain. He managed to jump out of the car door and hang on to a tree.
After surviving all of that, in 2002 at the age of 73 he won the equivalent of $1 Million in his country’s lottery. He never had any more death-defying incidents in his life and passed away peacefully at the age of 86 in 2016.
Was he the luckiest man? or the unluckiest man?.
