How To Escape Yourself: Unlocking And Unblocking Your True Potential

It’s often hard to blame ourselves for our lack of success as, let’s be honest there are dozens of excuses out there as to why we haven’t reached our full potential yet. But, in the end it all comes down to us. We are the keepers of our own lives, therefore our destiny has and has always been firmly in our hands.

Perhaps, as we get older, we realise that time is in fact running out. This forces us to reassess how we have been living our lives up until now and maybe challenge our previous decisions. Our current lives are the sum of all our thoughts, habits and decisions up till now. The good thing is, whilst we still have life, we can alter the path of our future.

The past is gone, it’s over. You can’t go back and change anything, all you can do is learn from it. Some things were valuable, some things were mistakes, but all things were lessons.

Escaping Yourself

Most people will not admit this but we are our biggest problem. We are our own victims of all the actions we could have, should have but didn’t take. Would our life have been different, better or even worse if we had made different decisions?. I guess we’ll never know, but now is not the time to start beating ourselves up over it, this is not the way forward.

For things to change, we have to change. Different outcomes require a different approach. You can’t improve things with the same outlook and same thinking that got you where you are today.

Life is a journey, the problem is when people get a little bit comfortable, they stop improving. We’re not trying to be better than others, just better than we were yesterday. If you stop growing, you settle and once you settle, life can get boring. This is why so many people (of all different ages) end up feeling stuck, static and dissatisfied with life.

Rewire Your Thinking

I know people say “change your thinking” etc, etc, but not many people explain how it’s done.

Step 1. Keep track of what you say each day. You can’t write all this down as you have thousands of thoughts every day but listen to things and phrases like “knowing my luck”, “this always happens to me”, “I never seem to catch a break”. These are just a few of the things that people keep repeating to themselves over and over.

Your subconscious mind cannot tell what is true or false, therefore it believes what you say and gives you situations to match your repetitive dominant thoughts. If you think you are the unlucky one, you’ll always get things thrown at you to make you right. We attract who and what we think we are. Therefore if you don’t like the way your life is going, it’s time to change your language.

Monitor your outward language and your inward language, what you say to yourself.

Step 2. Don’t live in hope, live in faith. You don’t question that your Amazon package will arrive or that your Uber driver will be OK. This is faith. You probably had faith in your partner when you married/lived with them. This is faith. You already have faith in some things, now try it on yourself. Believe that you can and you will. Believe in the unknown and have faith that things will turn out OK.

People who start ventures, start businesses, take risks etc, have faith in the outcome before they can see it. Self belief is everything, when you believe in yourself others will start believing in you too. Start to see yourself as a successful person and grow into that image. What you think about, feel about and believe enough will come about. The end result is at the end, that’s why it’s called the end result, you aren’t supposed to see it at the beginning, this is where faith comes in.

Knowing That You Can

“Fear is interest paid in advance on things that rarely happen” Most fear is unfounded. People stop doing things, they play small, they live life with the brakes on mainly because they fear things that aren’t real. Does this make any sense at all?

Fear is designed to keep you safe from doing things that harm or kill you. It has no other real use. You become fearless by thinking why you should do something rather than why you shouldn’t. Too many people will never do anything out of the ordinary simply because they view the downside greater than the upside.

I was asked just the other day why more people don’t start a business. I said because most people are too scared. They’ve dug themselves into an invisible hole and fear that any uncertainty at all will send it all crashing down. The truth is somewhat different.

Most successful entrepreneurs are not just single people with no commitments and no worries. Many are married or are in relationships, have kids, a mortgage and a ton of bills. The difference is, they believe in themselves and you, anyone can do exactly that with a little mind change.

Concentrate on making things work out instead of filling your head with all the things you think won’t. If every opportunity you see comes across a closed mind, you’ll never move on further from where you are now.

The world is changing, rapidly. People do not have to commute to a job anymore if they don’t want to. You can start a business up part time from home, just ditch some of the TV time. TV won’t make your life any better, in fact it could make your life worse as it’s using up valuable time that could be spent improving your life. If you’re happy at work, stay where you are as you spend a huge chunk of your life in it.

If you want change, you have to change.

Anyone can do it. Yes, it’s a struggle at first, but so is being broke, bored, busted and disgusted at the World. It’s time, your time, let’s do it.

Have a great day.
