From Shadows To Sunshine: The Magic Of Positive Expectation

You may not believe this, but in a world full of dictators and dodgy politicians, the only person you really have to worry about is you.

Why do I say this?. Because the World is becoming more dangerous, populist politicians and certain online influencers are hell-bent on spreading hate and division. You can either cave in and follow this rhetoric and feel permanently aggrieved and displaced or you can kick your own ass and shake yourself away from the noise.

I expect to win, so should you. When you doubt yourself you stay in the shadows, and let others win. Positive expectation is the music that should permeate the airwaves, your airwaves, instead we get a load of political drivel that only empowers the political elite. Politics and religion are two of the most divisive cults strangling the World today. No wonder people are fearful.

Don’t get me wrong, some politicians genuinely want to help, also some religion is a comfort to people, there is nothing wrong with being spiritual, we need more of it, but most of the stuff we allow in between our ears is not helping us, it is adding to our fear factor and influencing us in a negative way. With the aid of Social Media we now have the highest mental health spike in decades: Between 2017 and 2022, rates of probable mental disorder increased from around 1 in 8 young people aged 7-16 to more than 1 in 6. For those aged 17-19, rates increased from 1 in 10 to 1 in 4.

It’s spiked in Adults too. The pandemic hasn’t helped but constantly listening in to TV news also has a disempowering effect on people’s mental health.

Anxiety and fear are on the increase and we ourselves have to dismantle what things mean to us in order to protect our own mental health. For instance:

Step 1. Realization: Just look at a normal TV schedule. We are obsessed with murder. How many detective shows are playing around the clock?. How many TV murders are we witnessing by watching them? Is this helping your mental health? No.

TV News. How much of this is positive? Answer, hardly any. The TV news concentrates on what is going wrong with the World and plays it back to you over and over. This is the same negative influence that politicians use to keep followers hooked. Fear sells, without it the media wouldn’t exist.

Politics. OK, it’s always good to hear how a political leader is going to help the country. But, do they deliver?. Some do, some don’t. Many political leaders are renowned for screwing and twisting facts, some tell outright lies. Some are obsessed with conspiracy theories. They argue and try to verbally destroy others who don’t think like them. Is this helping your mental health?

Friends. How many do you need to make you feel good?. Do they make you feel good?. Why would you keep friends around who like arguing and putting others down?. Are these good for your mental health?

Step 2. The Plan. Filter out what doesn’t make you feel good and drop what doesn’t. Life is too short to listen to all the negatrons in the World. I know this might sound a bit Cliche but the World really is a good place. The world on TV and the reality of the world are poles apart. Most people are inherently good, a large part of TV and Social media tends to focus on what’s wrong rather than what’s right.

This is also how politicians come across, they try to tell you how bad everything is and they are the ones to fix it all, and when they are questioned on TV, we are looking for solutions but what we get is a long trip around the houses, as almost zero of them seem to be able to give a straight answer.

After you’ve filtered out what doesn’t make you feel good, filter in what does. There are plenty of positive people out there, go where they are. If you still like social media and you find platforms like Twitter too toxic, try Bluesky I’ve just joined too. Be more selective of your friends, choose those who are good for your mental health, remove or see less of those who complain all the time.

Listen to positive audio everyday, this is how I start my day. Fill your head with a good free positive video from YouTube each day. Read positive books. Start to influence your subconscious mind in a positive way. You can’t think positive and negatively at the same time, let positive thoughts boot out the negative. Do more of what makes you happy.

We are only in this life for a short journey. don’t let other people’s opinions, or opinions of you stop you from being happy. Make yourself happy until it becomes your default.

Expect things to work out and eventually they will, expect to win and eventually you will, your mind is your own, you choose how you run it. Keep away from negativity, embrace the positive and see yourself change over time. Start today. Your future self will love you for it.

Have a great day

Keith
