Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in 1904 and died in 1991. More than 600m copies of his books are in circulation, earning Dr Seuss Enterprises about $33m before tax in 2020, up from $9.5m in 2015, according to the company.
Dr Seuss was known for many famous sayings. One such saying was ” “Today you are You, that is truer than true. … BUT, what is also truer than true was Dr Seuss was never a Doctor, it was all part of his pen name and the fact that his father actually wanted him to become a real doctor.
What a lot of people didn’t know about Dr Seuss was that during his lifetime he suffered depression, financial worries and an awkwardness around children (weird, right?).
Most of the money made from his book empire was made after his death.

In 2021 Dr Seuss Enterprises said it would cease publication of “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street”, “If I Ran the Zoo”, “McElligot’s Pool”, “On Beyond Zebra”!, “Scrambled Eggs Super”! and “The Cat’s Quizzer” due to portrayals of racial stereotypes in the books. Of course, when these books were first written, times were different and attitudes of the day were unfair toward people of color.
