With an initial investment of £1,000, Francis launched Gymshark, an activewear brand with a focus on fitness apparel that blended functionality with fashion. He leveraged several social media platforms, especially Instagram.

When he was asked about the damning video, he said: “Four years ago, I was a young guy.”I got caught up in a moment and made a stupid mistake that I massively regret.


What does this tell us about being an entrepreneur?. First of all, any business venture needs some luck, however giving customers what THEY want is more important than giving customers what YOU want.

Ben Francis listened to feedback from users of his product and constantly improved them. He was not afraid to contact influencers and partner up with them. He started with just £1000, but that must have been quite a bit of cash to a student. Don’t be afraid to invest in yourself.
