We’ve all been there. You’re ready, you’re willing, and you’re absolutely certain that life should be moving faster than it is. You’ve made the plans, visualised the outcome, followed the steps, and yet something still holds everything in place. You hit pause when you were expecting play. You hit ‘wait’ when you were expecting ‘now’. Most people call that a delay. Florence Scovel Shinn would tell you it’s a design.
There’s something unbelievably comforting about that idea, isn’t there? That nothing is late, nothing is wrong, and nothing is slipping through your fingers. The timing isn’t broken, the universe isn’t confused, and you aren’t being punished. You’re just being positioned.
Timing doesn’t belong to us
It’s funny how we only call life “messy” when things don’t go according to our calendar. But timing has never been ours. It belongs to the deeper, wiser part of our journey, the part Florence called Divine Order. And if there’s one thing she hinted at constantly, it’s that Spirit has impeccable taste. Better taste than ours, in fact. Spirit chooses the exact moment when all the pieces line up, even the ones we didn’t know existed.
But here’s the twist most people never see. When life isn’t giving you what you want, it might be because it’s trying to give you something much better. You just haven’t caught up to the bigger picture yet.
Think about the last time something didn’t work out. The job that slipped away. The relationship that faded. The opportunity that shut its door in your face. In the moment, it felt unfair, maybe even cruel. But looking back? You can usually see the invisible thread connecting what you lost to what you later gained. The so-called failure wasn’t a failure at all. It was rerouting.
Introducing Florence
Florence had this brilliant ability to say difficult things in a way that made you laugh at yourself. If you complained about a delay, she’d tilt her head, smile politely and say something like, “My dear, perhaps Spirit is simply protecting you from a disaster you’re trying so hard to schedule.” Her humor wasn’t sarcasm. It was precision. She knew that when you trust timing instead of resenting it, life gets easier. Doors open without force. The right people show up without begging. The next step seems to be waiting for you to stop shouting and start listening.
Divine Order isn’t passive. It’s intelligent. It takes every detail of your path into account. It works in sequence, harmony, and rhythm. While you’re panicking about delays, the universe might be rearranging circumstances you can’t see yet. Aligning people, clearing obstacles, shifting resources. The backstage work of your destiny is always busier than you realise.
And yes, sometimes it takes longer. But longer doesn’t mean worse. Longer often means more precise, more stable, more aligned with who you’ve become since you first asked.
We love speed. Spirit loves accuracy.
There’s a difference.
So the next time something stalls, instead of asking “Why is this happening to me?” try asking “What is this preparing me for?” That one question moves you out of fear and into alignment. It allows Divine Order to take the lead, and life to unfold the way it always intended.
Remember, nothing is missing. Nothing is late. Nothing is wasted. The timing of your life isn’t random – It’s designed.
