Let’s be honest, everyone online is trying to teach you how to make money. And nine times out of ten, they’re either trying to sell you something or make you feel like you’re missing out on some “secret system.”

But what if the real secret to making money isn’t sexy at all?
In fact, what if it were downright boring?
I mean, mind-numbingly dull.
The kind of stuff that makes your eyes glaze over faster than a 3-hour PowerPoint presentation on data privacy.
Because guess what?
That’s where the real money hides.
Let me explain.
Back in 2015, a man named Spencer created a niche website called Avocadoo.com, which generated over $35,000 per month in the health space. Not bad, right? But over time, he realized something: while everyone else online was chasing excitement, fitness, crypto, travel, blah, blah, yawn… the biggest checks were quietly going to websites about… conversions, file formats, and IP addresses.
Yup. Boring sh*t. The kind of sites no one brags about at parties.
Still, they were quietly earning tens of thousands of dollars every month. You don’t have to be boring to be successful. But it helps.
Site #1: The JPEG to PNG Goldmine
Let’s start with JPEGtoPNG.com, a site that lets you convert, you guessed it, JPEGs to PNGs. Dreadfully boring stuff.
The site has been operational since 2015, generating anywhere from $25,000 to $51,000 per month. Not selling a product. Not launching a course. Simply allowing people to upload an image and then download it in another format.
That’s it.
No influencer deals. No TikTok dances. Just quiet, consistent, ad-driven traffic.
So how does a site like that make money? Easy. Traffic. It gets over a million visitors a month, and with ads paying roughly $5 per thousand visitors, the math adds up fast.
The kicker? It’s 100% automated. People visit, click, convert, and leave. Meanwhile, the site owner is probably sipping coconut water in the Bahamas.
Site #2: The Unit Converter Empire
Next up, unitconverters.net.
A site that’s about as exciting as watching grass grow… but oh, so profitable.
This one solves dozens of tiny, boring problems: meters to miles, Celsius to Fahrenheit, grams to ounces, you get the idea. It’s basically the internet’s calculator drawer.
That drawer generates around $35,000 per month.
It gets over 4 million visitors, and if you look closely, you’ll notice the pattern again:
These sites are useful, reliable, and, most of all, old, basic stuff.
They’ve been around for years, consistently helping people solve one small problem at a time. In the world of SEO, Google values this kind of trust and consistency.
Site #3: The IP Address Millionaire
Now for the grand finale — WhatIsMyIPAddress.com.
This site is the definition of “boring but brilliant.” It does one thing: it tells you your IP address. And it makes over $100,000 a month doing it.
Here’s why it works.
When someone Googles “What is my IP address?” and clicks the site, the answer appears instantly. The user’s satisfied. Google sees that satisfaction and rewards the site with top rankings.
But this site’s creator didn’t stop there. They asked a smarter question:
Why is someone looking up their IP address?
Privacy concerns?
Trying to watch Netflix in another country?
Worried about online security?
So they went deeper, adding affiliate links to VPN services. Now, every time someone clicks through and signs up, they get paid again.
That’s the golden formula:
Solve a simple problem → earn ad revenue → solve the deeper problem → earn affiliate commissions.
So… How Do You Make Money From Being Boring?
Here’s the truth: you don’t need to invent the next Facebook. You don’t even need to be an expert in anything thrilling. You just need to solve one real problem.
Start small.
Maybe you build a site that helps people find local pickleball courts. (Yes, that’s a real thing — Pickleheads.com did it, and they just raised $2.5 million in funding.)
Or maybe you’re into DIY crafts, and you build a free tool that calculates fabric measurements or mixes paint colors.
The key is to build something useful, even if it’s not glamorous. Especially if it’s not glamorous.
Because the internet doesn’t reward excitement. It rewards utility.
The Formula for Making Money Online (Without Losing Your Mind)
- Solve a problem — no matter how small.
- Be consistent — publish, test, tweak, repeat.
- Ask “why” — why are people using your site? What do they need next?
- Monetize smartly — start with ads, then add affiliate links.
- Play the long game — success comes from boring consistency, not viral hype.
The truth is, most people will never make money online because they chase excitement instead of endurance. They want quick wins, not quiet work.
But if you can show up every day, hammering away at something that solves a real problem, even if it’s dull, you’ll eventually find that beautiful, yet boring, thing called profitability.
So the next time someone asks you what your business is about and you tell them, “I convert JPEGs to PNGs,” don’t be surprised if they yawn.
Just smile. Because while they’re busy trying to be interesting, you’re busy making money.
Real money.
Consistent money.
The kind that lets you be as boring and as free as you want to be.
Have a great day, you wonderful bore…
Keith
