How to make money with a blog ?. I started my first blog back in 2010, I hadn’t really written anything of substance since leaving school so it’s not like I had a good track record of writing articles to fall back on.

I think this is one of the problems of would be bloggers today – having the confidence in themselves to blog in the first place.

Blogging is a strange medium. If you have no experience (like me) your first few posts will tend to be a bit lukewarm. My first few were pretty much awful. I just kept going. You get better as you go along.

My first blog (which isn’t there any more) was a blog called “Keith’s Money Making Tips” – as you can tell it was about making money and I simply added a different tip each day. My first ever post was a few lines telling people what to expect from the blog.

How To Make Money With A Blog – Broke As A Joke

I was pretty much broke in my early blogging days. I was trying to work out how to make money online and blogging seemed a good starting point. I simply went on to YouTube to learn how to buy a domain and create my first WordPress blog.

There were plenty of courses about on how to make money with a blog but most were too expensive for me at the time. You don’t need a lot of money to get going with blogging, you just need to figure out in your mind which niche you are going to create your blog in and remember whatever that niche is, make sure there will be products for you in that niche to sell using your blog.

My favourite way of monetising my blog (for free) was to find good quality digital products on platforms such as Clickbank, Warrior + and JV Zoo. I would then apply to become an affiliate and then blog about a subject that I could link to a product in the blog post itself.

The Top 3 groups where people show the most interest are:

1. Money – Finance
2. Health & Beauty
3. Relationships

You can blog about anything. Blog about your horses, blog about cars, photography, anything at all. If you are interested in something, the chances are so are other people. However in order to monetise your blog, make sure there are products you can sell in that particular niche.

Let’s say you are a person who loves sport. If you love to blog about football or horse racing, you would simply go to Google and type in Gaming Affiliate programs. This is just one affiliate platform for Gaming . There are hundreds, thousands of affiliate programs out there you can monetise your blog with.

An Affiliate is someone who sells a company’s products on commission. You don’t have to carry any stock, do any support or deliver any products, it’s all done for you. You just receive a commission through your affiliate link which you place discreetly in your blog post.

How To Make Money With A Blog – More Ways To Make Money

When I look back at my early posts, they were terrible, I was very lazy. I did the research online for a tip a day and occasionally would add a video, but I never spent the time refining my writing skills.

I did improve over time though and my very short posts expanded into large posts with pictures and video over time. This is when people latched on to my blog, I used to share the posts on as many Social Media channels as I could. I couldn’t afford paid ads at the time and even today I still only use social and organic methods to get traffic.

Traffic is eyeballs. Get people engaged with quality posts and people will read and click on your links. There are other ways to make money with a blog.

1. Guest posting. Once your traffic has built up and you’re getting several hundred viewers per day you can start charging for guest posts. These are posts from other bloggers which link back to their blog.
2. Letting people advertise on your blog. You will need to get your viewer numbers up to several thousand a month, supply proof though Google Analytics and away you go. Let advertisers place banner ads on your blog and charge them a monthly fee to do so.

There are many other ways you can use your blog to create revenue streams, too many to list here but I think you get the idea. Your blog can be a powerful weapon to increase your revenue, some people make a good living from blogging and others make huge monthly sums.

I remember when I first started back in 2010, John Chow was making $40,000 a month with this blog and more recently Michelle from personal finance blog “Making Sense of Cents” who currently makes over $100,000 a month from her blog.

The money is there if you want to do the work and claim it.
